Travel to Manali by either Himachal Tourism buses that start from Himachal Bhawan close to Mandi House Metro Station or the Himachal roadways buses “Himsuta” as they are known as. They will ensure a journey time of 13 hours unless it is a really bad road condition like a land side or some traffic jam due to political rally etc.

Manali is a long journey. Delhi to Manali is above 600 km and takes anything between 12–16 hours. In such a scenario, most comfortable journey parameters are

  1. Time of journey
  2. Most private operators waste a lot of time in picking passengers from multiple stops in Delhi
  3. Most buses start from Janpath around between 6–8 PM but don’t cross Delhi border before 12 in night to avoid extra day tax. At 12:00 AM, Delhi border is jam packed with buses so, a lot of time is wasted in jams.
  4. Leaving on time from Delhi — HP Tourism and roadways buses leave Delhi in evening between 5–7 and with extreme punctuality. So no time wasted.
  5. No time wasted at check post for paying state entry tax- Most private operators don’t pay the tax in advance and thus end up wasting almost 1 hour at each post of Punjab and Himachal for paying tax.
  6. No unscheduled stoppages — Tourism and roadways people have fix stoppages. No time wasted
  7. Clean toilets
  8. Many private operators stop at dhabas with really bad toilets. HP tourism and roadways buses stop at Dhabas with extremely clean toilets that can easily be rated at 4* levels.
  9. Food — The stops where these buses stop have good food with quick serve and multiple cuisines plus packing too is available.
  10. In private all buses that charge above 1200 are generally good. “travel with star” and indo-canadian too are good ones. But you can do very little about above issues.
